MUSIC PROJECTS
JACOB AND THE ANGEL
ALBUM
Jacob and the Angel is atmospheric music with a capital “A”. Be it the slack-string resonator on the heartbreaking standout track ‘In the Field”, the haunting 124-year-old banjola on ‘Sisyphus’*, the hushed parlor guitar on ‘Windowsill’, the sleight-of-hand 12 string Gibson on ‘Rare Air’, the harmonica, saxophone, cloud chamber bowls and the rest – there is
a private world we inhabit on this album, and a town tucked inside
every song.
HEAVEN GET BEHIND ME
ALBUM
Eleven songs about regret, memory, religion, love, mental health and so much more. Under the aka Martin Ruby, I lay my demons bare and pull on characters like a series of strange coats. Somehow this allows me to put into words feelings that I could never explain. There is a dark honesty to this album, recorded in a home studio.

WHALE
SOUNDTRACK
Writing the music for WHALE is one of the hardest things I have ever done. It had to feel effortless, invisible, and speak about a world that is not ours. I wrote the themes on my Gretsch Electromatic, leaving them sparse and open so that the ambient sounds of a calliope, a harmonium, mellotron cello and hurdy gurdy could give it perspective. To find a place for the viewer to look at things from.
